Grown & Gathered – a farm to table experience

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

The Downtown Johnson City Foundation is fusing farm, fresh food with a good cause for their annual farm-to-table experience. The intimate dinner, Grown & Gathered, will benefit Downtown Johnson City Foundation’s efforts towards downtown improvements.

Grown & Gathered will take place on Sunday, July 23. The dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails in the amphitheater and the dinner will be served in the Pavilion at Founders Park.

Grown & Gathered is a seasonal feast prepared by Jamie Dove and Elise Clair and their team from The Main Street Pizza Company and River Creek Farm. The dinner will feature the bounty from 30 local farms and producers. This year, portions of the meal will be served rodizio style. A beautiful menu with an Appalachian Korean fusion flair will be served.

Tickets for the farm-to-table dinner will be $75 per person. Last year was a sell out, so we recommend getting tickets early.  Tickets can be purchased at the WCEDC offices, 300 E. Main Street, Suite 406, Johnson City or on Eventbrite.

Local wine expert, Rick Jelovsek has sourced some excellent wines that pair well with our menu, but small producers don’t have the marketing budgets to donate the amount we need. We’re looking for some generous wine lovers to join our Grown & Gathered Bacchus Club. A donation of $100 would sponsor a case of local/regional wine. In return, you will …

> be listed on the menu as a member of the Bacchus Club.

> receive special recognition during dinner.

> receive early notification of next year’s dinner before it is advertised to the public.

Most importantly, you will be supporting local/regional wine producers and helping promote them to hundreds of wine and food lovers! To join the Bacchus club, go to Eventbrite.

CO.STARTERS to begin June 19

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

The Johnson City Development Authority is partnering with AccelNow to offer CO.STARTERS, a nationally renowned program that helps entrepreneurs turn an idea into a new business in just nine weeks. The first CO.STARTERS session begins June 19, from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the WCEDC office at 300 E. Main Street, 4th floor.

Participants of the CO.STARTERS program work with a small and supportive group of like-minded people who are all trying to start their own businesses. Working together, participants identify their assumptions about why and how their respective businesses will succeed and talk with customers to validate their ideas. The process enables the entrepreneurs to rapidly uncover issues in their proposed businesses, find practical solutions quickly, and leave the program with a deeper understanding of how to launch a success business.

Following the class, participants can compete in a pitch night, to share what they have learned about themselves and their business with friends and family. They will be prepared to participate in Pitches and Pints, a regional pitch contest for entrepreneurs.

If you are interested in participating, you can complete a registration form, found at Registration is $90 and includes a CO.STARTERS workbook. Following CO.STARTERS completion, any business interested in opening a retail storefront in downtown Johnson City, will have the opportunity to apply for a $5000 grant from the JCDA.

CO.STARTERS came out of The Company Lab, a Chattanooga, Tennessee organization that offers programs and events to support local startups and innovators in Chattanooga and the surrounding region. The program takes the lessons learned from working with thousands of local, creative entrepreneurs and combines that knowledge with the lean business modeling methods used by high-growth startups. The CO.STARTERS model has been tested for years in Chattanooga, Cincinnati, and Detroit.
