The Lady of the Fountain Commemorative Bricks Project
Purchase a brick and leave your mark on Downtown Johnson City!
Bricks and plaques surround our newly restored Lady of the Fountain sculpture located at the corner of Main and Buffalo Streets. Reminding us of our history, the fountain and it’s beautiful lady was installed in 1904 to honor Congressman Walter Brownlow for establishing Soldiers Home (Mountain Home VA) in Johnson City. The fountain and recast of the statute were returned to Fountain Square and dedicated in September of 2013. The statue that now graces Fountain Square is actually a recast of the original. Her older sister is posted in the city municipal and safety building.
The purchase of bricks and plaques by the community helped fund the restoration of the fountain. Contiuned sale of bricks will help fund other beautification and projects in Downtown Johnson City. Bricks can be purchased for $80 each, plaques are $500 each.
Each brick is 4″ by 8″ in size and can be engraved with three lines of text with 20 characters per line (a space counts as a character). You can put any text you would like on your brick. Popular ideas for text of bricks include your name or family member(s), favorite quotes and graduation dates.
