Sesquicentennial Kickoff Celebration – January 5

Join us this Saturday, January 5 for Johnson City’s Sesquicentennial Kickoff Celebration. The event will be held at the former Penney’s building at 309 E. Main Street in Downtown Johnson City from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Festivities will begin promptly at 11 a.m. with the unveiling of the time capsule from 1969. More than 50 items buried for the City’s centennial celebration will be placed on display for public viewing following the big reveal. Additional activities include an update on the Sesquicentennial Commission’s Legacy Project, a children’s time capsule project, complimentary birthday cake by Cakebuds Bakery, and an opportunity for community members to record a video message for inclusion in the 2019 time capsule.
