The Johnson City Development Authority is organizing a series of four business based workshops tailored towards Downtown Merchants. There will be one workshop a month; each workshop will be focusing on different techniques and features that Downtown Merchants can use to reach their target audience and expand their brand. Each workshop will be taught by a different instructor, who is proficient in the subject. The workshops are FREE and open to all Downtown Merchants that are interested in learning more about how to take their business to the next level. The workshops will be sponsored by Citizens Bank. 1. Learn Facebook’s Business Page Features

The workshop is an in-person and interactive workshop where you, as a downtown merchant, can learn the steps needed to elevate your brand through Facebook’s business page features. You can gain skills and knowledge from the hands-on experience that is tailored to the Johnson City Community, versus an online, generic tutorial. These tools can be utilized with limited resources , allowing you to reach a large audience with low budget and time commitments. The workshop will cover Facebook Business best practices and include a deep dive into Facebook Business insights. Led by Courtney Washburn.

2. 12 Key Suggestions for Starting a Business

Do you really want to start a business? This workshop Describes traits, skills and knowledge of successful entrepreneurs and provides self-assessment tools to gauge your readiness to start a business. Are you ready to start your own business? What does it take to start a business? What are some topics one should you consider in starting a small business: Is a business license required?  Should I register my business name?  Why should I incorporate my business? Do I need a tax EIN? What Taxes do I need to pay? Do I need extra funding to start my business? What do I need to do to get a loan? Do I need a business plan? We also cover why some businesses fail and how to avoid failure. Our seminar covers many more suggestions on how to start and stay in business. Led by Herman Metzler, SCORE Mentor

3. Grow with Google

Google My Business is an easy way to make your business more discoverable in your local market across Google Search & Maps. This workshop offers a walk-through step-by-step of everything you need to know about setting up and optimizing your Google My Business profile. Google My Business allows you to drive customer engagement through Google, give customers more ways to reach you and find out how many people are connecting with you through Google. In this workshop you will learn how to: Create or claim your Google My Business listing. Mange your business information across Google Search and Maps. 4. Get Your Store Ready for Shop Local

This workshop is geared towards helping local, small businesses get their storefront ready for Small Business Saturday on November 29th. You will learn the proper marketing and display methods and tools needed to reach your desired customer throughout the holiday season.
