Shellac Soundscapes: Johnson City and the Columbia Recording Sessions
September 25, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pmFree
In 1928-1929, Columbia Records set up shop in Johnson City to capture the talents of regional musicians. In his lecture, music historian and park ranger Corbin Hayslett will take the audience on a journey back in time through the shellac soundscapes of these Johnson City Sessions. He will play sound recordings and show original 78 RPM records of country music in our region from before and beyond Bristol. This is the second of two lectures at Johnson City Public Library about the Johnson City Sessions; the first is on Wednesday, September 18.
