Tell It to Me: Revisiting the Johnson City Sessions, 1928-1929

September 18, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

In 1928-1929, Columbia Records set up shop in Johnson City to capture the talents of regional musicians. In his lecture, ETSU professor Ted Olson will explain what these Johnson City Sessions were and why they remain significant 90 years later. Dr. Olson will play samples from the recordings and talk about his own work in producing two documentary albums about them. This is the first of two lectures at Johnson City Public Library about the Johnson City Sessions; the second is on Wednesday, September 25.
